Brief Introduction to the Library
*Since its establishment on September 13, 1919, ten Japanese directors had presided over the library by 1945. At that time 17,835 Japanese books were collected, and they all have historic reference value nowadays.
*Anping and Annan Branch Libraries were established in the Recovery Period from 1945 to 1974. A new library building was built and put into use in October 1975, laying a foundation of moderate-scale library.
*In 1978, the library took over Tainan Branch of US International Exchange Administration and established Southern District Branch Library (renamed Central District Branch Library later). It was moved to the original address of Nannong Forest District Office, Forestry Bureau on November 9, 2001, and the Special Literatures Storage was migrated there.
*In 1980, the new building of Anping District Branch Library was put into use, and it took over the Children's Science Building in 1982. In 1983, Tucheng District Branch Library was established.
*Cultural centers of counties were established in succession in 1984. As the library had enriched collections and had functioned well, it was approved by the Central Government and the Provincial Government to be independent.
*October 30, 1996, the new building of Southern District Branch Library was completed and put into operation.
*April 28, 1997, the building of Eastern District Branch Library was completed and opened. Since then the library has one headquarters and seven branches.
